Saraki’s trial: We won’t sacrifice Senate presidency – APC Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has refuted online media reports that the party would sacrifice the Senate presidency on the altar of change.
Odigie-Oyegun made the rebuttal while speaking to newsmen at the party secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that a few days ago an online report quoted the chairman as saying “Saraki would be well; I don’t think we will lose that position.
“But sometimes, for change to take place there is price you have to pay. So losing the position may be sacrifice for change.”
But, in his reaction, Odigie-Oyegun said: “This misunderstanding is still on?
“Let me put it simply: there were basically two points that I was making.
“Number one, as a party of change or even as a party, we cannot interfere in a judicial process that is ongoing.
“That was clear.
“And, when they asked about the Senate, I said under no circumstance can we compromise on the leadership of the Senate.
“We are the majority party and the issue doesn’t even arise.
“But unfortunately, the way it was put, the misinterpretation has been a little bit intense and that is clear.
“It just doesn’t arise at all.
“The issue, the argument and the rest doesn’t arise.
“If somebody wants to theorise and postulate, that’s a different matter. It doesn’t arise.”
It would also be recalled that the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Timi Frank, reportedly said in an online report that APC could not provide any political solution to the ongoing trial.
