Horror as grandmother, 64, and her four grandchildren are swept away by raging flood waters

A GRANDMOTHER and her four grandchildren have been killed after being swept away by fast-flowing flood waters.
Tragic Lenda Asberry, 64, died along with Jamonicka Johnson, six, Von Johnson Junior, seven, Devonte Asberry, eight, and nine-year-old Venetia Asberry, as they tried to escape the rising water.
They had escaped a house when the flood had reached the roof line but were then swept away in Palestine, Texas, US, on Friday.

Lenda's son Dleniel Hudnall said: "She had all four kids trying to lift them out of the water.
"I don't know how she was doing it, but four kids trying to lift them out of the water, but they say she was trying.
"The waters got too strong for her and she just said she couldn't take it no more and then washed off."

Another man, Giovani Olivas, 30, was also swept away by flood waters yesterday.
His body was found on Saturday afternoon.
Several US states being battered by severe storms at the moment including tornadoes, torrential rain and huge hailstorms.
